Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham recently celebrated 75% of the state getting fully vaccinated, surpassing the “60% to 70%” herd immunity threshold health experts (including St. Anthony Fauci) said would be needed to provide community-wide protection against COVID-19.
And as a result of this milestone, hospitalizations and deaths in New Mexico are plummeting!
Or…uh…wait a sec.
Actually, COVID deaths in New Mexico reached 105 this week, up 62% over last week, and hospitalization are averaging 750 a day, up from an average of 80 a days this summer.
If it seems counter intuitive that cases, hospitalizations, and deaths would increase as more residents get vaccinated, that’s because it is.
And what ever happened to Fauci’s claim that herd immunity would be reached if 60% to 70% of the country got vaccinated?
Despite being the norm for other diseases, it turns out it doesn’t apply to COVID, and didn’t even when Fauci initially claimed it did.
“Dr. Anthony Fauci has long cited 60% to 70% as the level of COVID infection/vaccination the country would need to achieve herd immunity — for the disease to fade and life to return to normal, writes The New York Times’ Donald G. McNeil Jr.,” Axios reported.
But then all of a sudden the threshold jumped to 70% to 75%. Fauci admitted he lied, telling The New York Times that he moved the goalposts on vaccinations based on what he thought people would believe at the time.
“When polls said only about half of all Americans would take a vaccine, I was saying herd immunity would take 70 to 75 percent … Then, when newer surveys said 60 percent or more would take it, I thought, ‘I can nudge this up a bit,’ so I went to 80, 85. We need to have some humility here …. We really don’t know what the real number is. I think the real range is somewhere between 70 to 90 percent. But, I’m not going to say 90 percent.”

Not only do the experts not know what the real number is, they don’t know what the solution to any of it is. Masking, social distancing, jabbing babies, lockdowns, firing nurses. Nothing seems to make a difference, not even lying!
