A new poll from KOB gives Michelle Lujan Grisham a 68% to 22% lead on the abortion issue, that despite New Mexicans telling pollsters last month that 59% support restrictions on abortion in the state.
KOB’s poll also gave Grisham a 12-point lead in a head-to-head matchup against Ronchetti.
The private conversation between Ronchetti and Legacy Church Pastor Steve Smothermon apparently had a big impact on the electorate. Smothermon claimed during a sermon that Ronchetti intends to abolish abortion in the state of New Mexico if elected governor, even though his official position has been to limit abortion after 15 weeks, with exceptions for cases of rape, incest, and health of the mother.
The fact that most New Mexicans oppose unrestricted abortion yet support the unrestricted-abortion candidate proves that abortion is the hot-button issue we thought it would be, and that Grisham is winning the messaging war.
