The rumors circulating on social media that New Mexico’s lieutenant governor shared a misspelled education link that redirected to a pornography website have been proven true.
Lt. Gov. Howie Morales tweeted Thursday about free college opportunities for New Mexico adults, but as several Twitter users pointed out, the link “freecollagenm.org” (sic) redirected to Pornhub.com.

We were able to verify the accuracy of these claims. A domain search of freecollagenm.org shows a screenshot history that prove the original link did in fact redirect to Pornhub.

Morales has since deleted the tweet, and the link as of Friday redirected to hed.state.nm.us/free-college-for-new-mexico. As of Saturday the link redirects to Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s campaign website, https://www.newmexicansformichelle.com/.
How this happened or who is responsible are questions that remain to be answered. We have reached out to the lieutenant governor and Grisham’s press secretary for comment.
We will update the story as more information is available.

Misspelled URLs often redirect in unpredictable ways. Twitter has long needed a way to edit errors so am sympathetic. But he should have checked his work before hitting send. A common error we all can make.
